Listening to your Internal Dialogue

Scientists used to believe that what influences us most is the information that flows into our brains from the outside world. Wrong! We're pretty inside-out people and what we really do is respond according to the information we have already stored in our brains from past experiences. Potentially, that's pretty strong stuff!

Some people have a lot of negative past experiences which mean there's a quite heated discussion going on inside your head. You need to call time on this and re-train your internal dialogue. That's where Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) comes in.
Have you ever lost your car keys, for instance? Can you remember what you were saying to yourself? Did it run along the lines of: "I can't find my car keys; I can't remember where I put them; oh this is stupid where I put them?" That's pretty negative isn't it? Often, you spiral ever downwards into negativity and inaction, concentrating on what is going wrong rather than finding a solution; that's no good to anyone is it?
Recognizing how your own internal dialogue sounds maybe the most important step in giving yourself the freedom to feel great whenever you want. NLP allows you to change your internal dialogue and talk to yourself in a positive way all the time, so that you begin to feel positive more and more often.
That kind of positive NLP coaching for your brain can really affect and change your behaviour patterns for the good. Practice makes perfect and the more you do it, the easier it gets to use this NLP technique of consciously adjusting your thoughts, so that as soon as you think of a negative thought, you should counter it with something positive. The more you do it the more natural it will sound, but to begin with, you may need some help; NLP coaching is becoming increasing available all over the country now.
NLP retrains your mind by offering it a positive and practical alternative to negative thinking. It's not just about blocking out negative thoughts, but also giving a useful thought in its place. It has similarities with hypnosis, but also differences.
Modelling is very important in NLP, so you really need an NLP coach; to use NLP effectively you learn this modeling from your NLP coach, who picks up on what you are saying and reads between the lines a little bit, mirroring the things learned back to you so that you can increase your awareness of your internal dialogue.
NLP has been used in sports, business, health, education - and many other areas. You can learn these skills through NLP CDs or NLP videos and books, if you want to help someone else in this way, but for yourself, you would be best advised to go to a professional NLP practitioner. Think about it, NLP is meant to help you uncover the internal dialogue you are not really aware of - so how can you be the best one to do this for yourself? With only a few sessions with an NLP practitioner, you will be equipped with a really powerful tool to intervene in your internal dialogue and turn any negative into a positive - then there's no end to the power of your mind!
