EFT as First Aid
EFT as First AidThe emotional freedom technique, which combines tapping on certain points of the body which correspond with the ends of the meridians or energy channels within the body with statements of acceptance of the problem and a declaration of how you will change, is a really powerful healing technique. It's so powerful that it can be used on other people and it works whether or not you are familiar with it or whether you even believe it. That makes the emotional freedom technique perfect for First Aid.
EFT can be used to deal with the pain of the injury - whether that is a sprain or a sting or whatever; but this therapy can also be used to deal with the negative self-talk that often immediately follows a sudden injury of this kind. The effect of this self-talk can often be to talk up the pain and make it seem worse than it actually is, especially if we have experienced the injury before.
Let's use a bee sting as an example of how EFT can be really effective in this kind of First Aid situation.
First, you need to rub on your ‘sore spot' on your chest. Repeat your set-up phrase such as something like:
"Even though I got stung by a darn bee I still like and accept myself."
Begin your EFT tapping technique, repeating your reminder phrase which can be something like ‘darn bee!' You should begin to feel the pain of the sting lessening pretty quickly.
Talk to your body and subconscious mind - or that of the person you are treating as a First Aid giver - all the time you are performing your EFT tapping technique. Often phrases like,
"Even though bee stings in the past have really hurt, things are different this time."
This is important because often the pain of things like bee stings is made worse by the memory of these past injuries. We get to expect it to hurt so it does. The EFT tapping technique helps to free up your positive energies so that you feel powerful and positive, and blockages of memories of past pain are freed. The energy which should flow along the meridians is free o do so, rather than being stuck in places where these bad memories still lurk in the energy channels.
Focus on each aspect of the bee sting and use an affirmation statement about how this is getting better, like,
"Even though I felt a sharp prick like a needle it is gone now and I feel no pain" or "Even though the bee sting was injected into my arm (or wherever) it is dissipating now and it no longer hurts me.'
You can use the procedure whilst you imagine a cooling liquid flowing through your body and soothing the pain away. Visualize the soothing liquid actually flowing to all parts of your body; remember that the emotional freedom technique is a holistic therapy, so you really should begin to feel this all through your body.
EFT is so effective because the best way to heal pain is to acknowledge and deal with the emotions that go hand in hand with and usually create the pain.
